Garcia-Masso et al 2011 measured the various forces associated with different types of plyometrics pushups. They measured counter-movement pushups which involved accelerating as hard as possible against the ground, jump pushups which are like clapping pushups but without the clap and falling pushups in which one falls from the kneeling position and tries to rebound themselves to the start position. The maximum force and maximum rate of force development was highest on the counter-movement pushups. The falling pushups generated the greatest impact forces and muscular activation. The jump pushups and counter-movement pushups were found to be best for increasing explosive force while the falling pushup was found to be best for increasing muscular strength.
